Why dose man try understand the Bible when only God can do that for you?

I am an atheist and I'd be willing to bet that I have read the bible considerably more than you have (and in more languages), and I do not find a lot of it very hard to understand, given that it is a gathering together of a lot of quite unrelated stories. If that was not the case it would be harder, as it is not internally consistent.
