Can i have a small private chapel wedding a few years BEFORE a real wedding without parents knowing?

Me and my boyfriend would like to have big traditional wedding, but if we get married before we're done with college our parents wont pay for the rest of school. If we get married by ourselves at a small Reno wedding chapel, could we still have a traditional wedding afterwards without our parents ever finding out? We're just concerned about any paperwork that might be weird when were doing the big wedding. We DO want to have the big traditional wedding, but we DON'T want to wait.
