How to install the Sims2 CD-ROM with a DVD-ROM/CD-R/W drive?

I don't know much about computer drives. I've had the Sims 2 on a different computer, but it gave me problems so now I would like to play it on another computer. When I go to install it, I get to about 49% and it tells me: A problem has occurred when trying to transfer the file 'D:\TSData\Control\control2.dat' from the media. My computer is a Windows Vista-Ultimate. On my computer tower, the drives are DVD-ROM/CD-R/W on the top, and EXPANSION on the bottom, but the EXPANSION one does not function. So my question is, what do I do to install the Sims 2 on my computer when I get this error? (I tried to give as much information possible..also please make the directions clear, if any) Thanks a bunch! :)
